Haircare & Maintenance

Beautiful extensions start with simple, consistent care. Follow the guidance below to keep your hair looking soft, glossy, and seamless. while protecting your natural hair underneath. This is written in line with Donia’s care-led, professional approach.

Product rules

  • Choose salon-quality, hydration-led products.
  • Avoid formulas containing protein, sulphates, or drying alcohols (these can leave extensions feeling brittle and prone to tangling).
  • Conditioner + mask are non-negotiable: we recommend a very hydrating conditioner and a mask after every wash to keep the hair softer for longer.
thumb

Washing routine

  • Don’t wash more than 3 times per week. Over-washing can dry the hair out and shorten the lifespan.
  • Never sleep with wet or damp hair. Always make sure it’s fully dry before bed.
thumb

Brushing &daily care

  • Brush daily using an extension-approved brush, and be gentle. especially around attachment points.
  • Work from ends → mid-lengths → roots to avoid unnecessary tension.
thumb

Heat styling

  • Use low to medium heat and keep styling intentional, not constant.
  • Always apply heat protection.
  • You can use a serum/oil from mid-lengths to ends, but avoid oily products before extreme heat (oil + high heat can “fry” the hair)

Sleeping &friction protection

For less tangling and better longevity, we recommend:

  • a silk pillowcase or bonnet, or
  • tying the hair very loosely (low, soft braid/pony) before bed.
thumb

Maintenance appointments

  • All extension methods require maintenance every 4–8 weeks.

This keeps your natural hair safe, prevents stress on the roots, and ensures everything stays secure and comfortable.

Colouring & toning

  • Extensions can be coloured or toned, but should never be lightened lighter than the shade they arrived in.

Sun, swimming& holidays

  • Protect hair from the sun with a scarf/hat or a UV protection product.
  • Avoid chlorine and sea water where possible (both can dry out hair and affect tone/texture).
  • Avoid sunscreen containing Avobenzone, as it can cause unwanted colour changes (especially in lighter shades).
